VJU Studio simplifies innovation

Scan Coating Removal Tool

Scanmudring, a company specializing in subsea dredging and excavation, set out to develop a new pipeline coating removal tool with an improved control system and better functionality.

The project used Ixys electronics hardware and VJU Studio software, making it easy to set up the layout and create a solid control system, even without programming experience. Since the system was easy to expand, it resulted in a user-friendly setup that has received a lot of positive feedback.

Bringing everything; video, control, logging, and more, into one system made operations much smoother. This approach helped speed up development, automate processes, and successfully deploy the Scan Coating Removal Tool (SCRT) with the 20Te Scanmachine.

How VJU Studio contributed to success

Drivers for Motor Control:

VJU Studio made it easy to precisely control the SCRT’s four motors, ensuring smooth operation for tasks like adjusting speed and maintaining the right distance from the pipe. Operators could set parameters, such as speed and positioning, to match the specific characteristics of the pipe, like its size, coating thickness, and material.

By allowing these adjustments, VJU Studio helped streamline operations, reduce manual input, and minimize the risk of errors during deployment.

Automated Flushing Sequence:
With VJU Studio, the flushing sequence was automated to run smoothly after the initial setup, ensuring it operated the same way every time. This automation kept the process reliable and efficient, reducing the need for manual adjustments. As a result, operators could focus on other critical tasks while the system consistently performed its functions.

Flexible Hardware Integration:
The SCRT system is configured and controlled through VJU Studio, enabling seamless communication between its mechanical components and the control platform.

Ixys provided essential hardware components, including a subsea canister with an integrated switch, an analog output card, a serial server, relays, and a power supply unit. The Gateway canister was specifically designed with standardization in mind, making it versatile and suitable for use in other Scanmudring machines, both now and in the future. The tool is operated flawlessly with VJU Studio’s real-time control and monitoring capabilities, delivering reliable and efficient performance.

Effortless control system development

VJU Studio’s flexibility and user-friendly design enabled the rapid development of the SCRT’s control system. Using VJU, Scanmudring significantly reduced programming time while benefiting from a modular, adaptable platform that ensured smooth integration and precise control. This minimized manual intervention and freed up resources for other priorities.

The SCRT project highlights VJU Studio’s ability to provide practical, intuitive, and reliable solutions for demanding environments. Its intuitive interface also future-proofs the system, enabling operators to make real-time adjustments effortlessly, without the need for programming experience.

“The tool worked perfectly without any operational downtime on its first offshore project. The new features with electrical control system, nozzle setup and improved accuracy on both the tools and the pumps makes this the safest and most reliable coating removal tool I have ever used.”
