Storm Selvig (Computer Engineering, UiA), Halvard Nese (Informatics, Programming and System Architecture, UiO) and Tomas Aas-Hansen (Mechatronics, UiA) have all contributed significantly to our teams throughout the summer, with close guidance from experienced colleagues.
While Halvard has been working within our development software team, with Vebjørn Lia Riiser as his mentor, Storm and Tomas have joined the hardware side, benefiting from the mentorship of Otto Nessa Ljosdal and Tomas Royal Choat.
“It has been a pleasure working alongside Tomas and Storm this summer. They have shown great dedication and an impressive ability to quickly understand new challenges and our technology. Throughout the summer, they have contributed both fresh perspectives and practical solutions, delivering work of a high standard.”

Hardware Engineer
From surprises to new learning opportunities
Halvard was positively surprised by the flexibility of the VJU Studio control system and spent the summer developing tests to ensure stability and quality in the software. Halvard is now entering his final year of his bachelor’s degree and is considering either a master’s program or starting a career as a developer in Oslo.
“When I started at Ixys, I had barely heard of what VJU Studio was, and was pleasantly surprised by how flexible the control system is, and how it can be used to control many different types of products.”
Halvard Nese
Student at UiO
“Halvard has been a great contribution to our team. He has helped expand our test suite for VJU Studio and the new tests have already proven helpful in avoiding bugs in development.”
Vebjørn Lia Riiser
Senior Software Engineer

For Storm, the biggest surprise was discovering how much is actually developed and produced in-house at Ixys – from circuit board design to final platforms. Over the summer, he worked on developing a test platform for circuit boards. This autumn, he will continue his studies with a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence.
“I have learned a great deal about electrical circuits and interdisciplinary collaboration.”

Student at UiA

For Tomas, the summer was all about practical learning and new challenges. His work on automating hardware tests provided both mastery and new insights. He highlights Ixys’ environment as a key factor in his learning with a competent and supportive environment, combined with trust and freedom, gave him the perfect foundation to grow as a mechatronics student.
“The most motivating moments are when you see that your work solves a real problem for a colleague and makes their job easier.”
Tomas Aas-Hansen
Student at UiA
Valuable experience for the future
The summer internship at Ixys gave the students valuable experience applying theory from their studies to real-world challenges, while also providing insight into how a development team works in practice.
We at Ixys are proud to support the professional development of tomorrow’s engineers, and we wish Storm, Halvard, and Tomas every success – whether they continue with master’s studies or embark on exciting careers in technology and development.
