The organization develop and build remotely operated ROV and provides students with valuable practical experience in electronics, mechanics, programming, and project work.
“We see the collaboration with UiA Sub as an investment in the engineers of the future. The students shows impressive commitment, and build expertise that is highly relevant to the industry Ixys operates in,” says Anne Linn Olsen, Marketing Specialist at Ixys.
Off to a good start this semester
UiA Sub is well underway with this semester and the development of its new ROV. The current focus is on establishing CAN-bus communication internally in the system, as well as building the manipulator and support equipment. At the same time, the students are working to secure their ovn work and storage areas on the Grimstad campus, to create a permanent hub for both work and social activities.
The plan is for the ROV to be tested these days, allowing this semester to be used for testing and optimization towards the TAC-Challenge, an international competition for student teams that develop underwater vehicles in June.

A growing and active community
Autumn 2025, UiA Sub participated with a stand at the Start Point Expo in Kristiansand and at a workshop with Rekor at UiA, focusing on how student organizations can further develop their activities. The organization now counts more than 30 active members who meet regularly at sunday workshops to continue work on the ROV project.

“It’s inspiring to see how the students are building both technical solutions and a strong professional community. We look forward to following their progress and contributing with our expertise and experience where relevant,” Olsen adds.
