From classroom to production

Saga Marie Austrått is a student at Gand VGS and is studying computer technology and electronics at VG2. She has spent the last three weeks on placement in our production department.

Mounting completed PCBs into enclosures for final delivery.

After visiting Ixys last year, she noticed that one of the employees was wearing a T-shirt of her favourite band, and she thought it was a promising sign! In addition, Ixys is also located close to where she lives in Klepp.

During the first few weeks, Saga Marie has gained solid hands-on experience across the entire value chain in electronics production at Ixys.

“I have learned a lot about different machines and PCB production – everything from the pick and place machine, to coating, preservation and packaging, in addition to manual tasks. The selective soldering machine is exciting and it’s nice that I already had som basic soldering skills and understanding of components from Gand VGS,” explains Saga Marie Austrått.

Right now, the main focus is the production of 1300 control PCBs for Kolumbus’s City Bikes.

“I am currently assembling the control boards into boxes, so that they are ready for installation in the bikes when the customer receives them,” says an enthusiastic Saga Marie.

Having Saga Marie on assignment at Ixys has given the production department the opportunity to work closely with an engaged and eager-to-learn student. Over the course of the three weeks, she has been able to try out several different work tasks and has shown both initiative and motivation – clearly highlighting the value of practical learning in a real production environment.

“We are impressed by her efforts – and happy to be able to give young technology talents real experience in a professional production environment with good guidance,” says Jarl-Ove Haugen, Production Manager at Ixys.
